Our first author of the month is Suzanne Collins. Suzanne began her writing career in 1991 as a children’s television writer, working at Nickelodeon. She is the much acclaimed author of The Hunger Games, but did you know that she wrote a five book series prior to The Hunger Games? The Underland Chronicles are the adventures of 11 year-old Gregor and his 2 year-old sister, Boots. One day they fall through a vent in their basement and find a secret land beneath New York City, a land where the inhabitants are human, but where there are also strange and gigantic creatures! Gregor and his sister find themselves battling giant scorpions, cockroaches, lizards and mice during their time in Underland. This series is a great read and is highly recommended.
