Getting started with the library catalogue

As a staff of CAIS, you can go to the library counter and the library staff will create a library account for you. You can enjoy library services immediately.

As a student, you already have a library account once you join our school. The library creates a library account for each new student at the beginning of the school year.

Our library catalogue is supported by Follett Destiny. First, go to the Catalogue on the home screen. Then, input any word or phrases in the “Search” box. You may limit your search by types (i.e., keywords, title, author, subject, or series etc.), format, reading level. “Help” at the side menu bar from Follett Destiny has more details on how to use different search functions.

Go to the login page via Catalogue on the home screen and input your username and password. Your username and password are your school login. If you forget your username and password, ask the library or email us at library@caisbv.edu.hk.

Borrowing a library item

The borrowing quota depends on your grade level.

Grades Maximun no. of books
Prep-G6 3 English and 2 Chinese
G7-G12 4 English and 2 Chinese

The loan period for each item is 2 weeks.  Each item can be renewed once if there is no hold on this item.

The Library opens from 0730 to 1700 on normal school days.

Borrowing procedures:

    • Prep-G3: Students write down their name and class at the back of the book on the due date slip.
    • G4-G12: Students bring along their student card and books to the circulation desk.

General loan rules:

    • Loan period: 2 weeks
    • Book return: Students return books to the circulation desk by the due date.
    • Renewal: Students may renew their library books from the library website once before the due date. Contact the library at library@caisbv.edu.hk for any enquiries.
    • Overdue fine: The overdue fine is HKD1 per school day for each item.
    • Damaged or lost books: If a book is damaged or lost, the student needs to pay for the replacement, shipping and handling costs involved.

Specific loan rules:

    • Popular series: A student may check out 1 book from a popular series at a time e.g., Minecraft, Lego, Pokémon, etc. The library regularly reviews the list of popular series.
    • Audiobooks: G3-G12 students may borrow one audiobook at a time for two cycles. Students need to use their own AAA battery and earphones. Students need to return the audiobook case (orange), Playaway machine and the battery door (i.e., cover). An audiobook is equivalent to 1 English book’s borrowing quota.
    • Senior Fiction: Senior Fiction is restricted to high school students only. Primary students must seek parental permission before borrowing books from the Senior Fiction collection. An email from the homeroom teacher or parents to the librarian is required for primary students to borrow books from the Senior Fiction collection.
    • Tuesday and Thursday after-school circulation services: The library is open for circulation to primary students accompanied by parents on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 4:15 pm. Parents need to supervise their own children in the library. The library staff provides circulation services only.
    • Primary students may borrow two extra books when accompanied by their parents.
