Dear Primary Parents,
As promoting literacy is one of our school-wide goals for this year, the Chinese and the Library teams are co-hosting a Chinese Reading Week for Primary students from November 2-9 and the details are as follows:
Theme: 小故事、大世界 (Small stories in a big world)
Aim: To promote Chinese reading and literacy in the school
When: Nov. 2 (Wednesday Day 3) – Nov.9 (Thursday Day 2), 2017
Where: Chinese classrooms, the Library (3/F) and at home
Who: G. 1-G. 6 students, Chinese studies teachers and the library team
Activities:
We have a lot of great activities planned for this week, centered around motivating students to read and share Chinese books. Parents are invited to encourage their child(ren) to participate in our activities and to explore our engaging Chinese reading materials. The activities are as follows:
- Chinese Reading Week poster competition (Oct. 16-27, G. 3-6, at home)
- Book character design on a template provided by Chinese teachers (Oct. 16-27,G1-2 , at home)
- Reading challenge (At home and school)
- In-class book talks (Chinese Class)
- Riddles (PA announcement)
- Morning storytelling (PA announcement)
- Lunch storytelling (Library)
- Book fair: Parents are welcome to select books with their children on Nov. 11 from 9am to 4pm at the Library on 3/F.

Parent workshop for reading with Prep-G.1 children:
The Chinese team will share their hands-on experience and reading strategies through demonstration. Parents of Prep-G.1 are welcome to join us, please register through is2.
