The CAIS library would like to introduce Jan Brett, an American illustrator and writer of children’s picture books, to our primary students.

Jan Brett was born in Massachusetts on December 1, 1949. When Jan was a child, she spent many hours reading and drawing and decided to be an illustrator. She had many different pets as a child including cats, dogs, rabbits and a horse. She used her imagination to create places and depict her beloved animals for her stories.

Jan Brett studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School in 1970. She spent many spare hours in the Museum of Fine Arts, where was a place to inspire her art-work. Travel is also a constant inspiration. Jan visits many different countries to research architecture and costume for her books with her husband, Joe Hearne. For example, she visited several folk museums in Norway to study traditional Norwegian designs and she was inspired to write three books: Christmas trolls, Trouble with trolls and the wild Christmas reindeer.

To find out more about Jan Brett, please visit the CAIS Library and her website at http://www.janbrett.com/index.html. Enjoy her wonderful Christmas stories!
