What we have been learning in the library lately

During library lessons this term, the students have been learning and putting into practice the Inquiry Model in order to prepare for their inquiry work in the future. The largest difference between using an inquiry model and other assignments is that the focus question of an inquiry originates from the students themselves. After having studied and learnt the concepts and ideas around a certain topic, the students can then go on to investigate any aspect that they are really interested in.

The Inquiry Model acts as a guide to for helping students to find and share answers to questions students may ask. It is a research skill that can serve the students not only during their time at school but also is transferrable to life outside of school and into adulthood. It is a way of approaching a question to systematically and effectively find answers and solutions.

In order to let students be more familiar with the Inquiry Model, students are required to do several tasks and prepare a final product as an inquiry work.

E-book Corner

Since the autumn of 2018, our library has provided three dedicated computers for students to access to the three electronic databases or electronic libraries that our library provides, i.e., PebbleGoTumbleBook Library and OverDrive.

Those computers are now able to access more electronic databases provided by Alberta education and the Hong Kong Public Library (HKPL) electronic resources. In total, around 40 more electronic databases can be accessed through Internet directly. For the HKPL provided ones, students need to have their own HKPL access instead of accessing by the school’s account. Please make use of these databases for your study and leisure.

Moreover, items in OverDrive can also be searched in our school library catalogue.

Book Exhibition – Science and Mathematics

From December 2018 to January 2019, our library has set up another book exhibition on the theme of Science and Mathematics. Other than the books and magazines suggested to students, the display board also introduces the winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry and Medicine, and the Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences in 2018.
