Every book read makes something good happen at CAIS.

Dear CAIS Family,

READATHON 2019 is an annual, community-based event currently in its 19th year. Our main objective is to highlight and promote:

  • Literacy: students read books with their classes, classmates, parents, and on their own, and achieve goals to receive prizes for participation or excellence.
  • Community building: classes cooperate and compete in a variety of activities, such as book character dress up day and buddy reading with younger students within the school.
  • Fundraising: funds raised will go towards Library upgrades, including new amenities such as a language laboratory, and a multimedia center.

The selected theme for this year is “Building Novel Ideas.”  READATHON will start on the 28th of January and will run until the 22 nd of February, 2019 for grades 4-12. Further details about the program will be shared with students shortly. Every student is encouraged to read for no less than 30 minutes a day, and students may accumulate Accelerated Reader points by reading books and answering questions in AR quizzes. These points are used for individual and class targets. Additionally, if a student achieves 100% on a FICTION AR quiz or passes a NON-FICTION AR quiz, he or she will be entered into the Daily Special Draw.

Each student needs to find sponsors. Sponsors can consider giving a one-time donation or sponsoring students according to the goals they set to earn Accelerated Reader (AR) points. Donations of $100 or above are tax-deductible.  Please indicate if a sponsor would like a receipt and be sure to print their first and last names clearly.

The last day to tally your efforts for prizes is Wednesday the 27th of February, 2019.  More details to follow.

Thank you in advance for helping your child participate in the 2019 READATHON.

Sincerely,
The Readathon Committee
